(Back to #aclarknet overview) (Back to channel listing) (Animate logs)
[01:40:15] <bjersey> hi @aclark
[18:37:24] <bjersey> hi Alex, are you there?
[18:40:32] <aclark> bjersey: pong
[18:41:02] <bjersey> hey if you had some time, I wanted to chat about the iptc field task
[18:41:02] <aclark> !m bjersey
[18:41:03] <pmxbot> you're doing good work, bjersey!
[18:41:05] <aclark> sure
[18:41:16] <bjersey> so all I did was introduce fields and models
[18:41:20] <bjersey> but that doesn't really do much
[18:41:24] <aclark> K
[18:41:31] <bjersey> does gary want to expose these new fields as forms on the UI
[18:41:36] <bjersey> so he can save values to them?
[18:41:36] <bjersey> or
[18:41:41] <bjersey> what's the plan?
[18:41:42] <aclark> Yes I believe so
[18:41:52] <bjersey> ok
[18:41:55] <bjersey> I can do that easily enough
[18:42:15] <bjersey> but the part about saving the data back to the actual file itself (vs. just as a django model field value) will take some thinking
[18:42:25] <aclark> K cool, the app is for "editors" to manipulate images that we're then going to create "playlists" with
[18:42:25] <bjersey> the IPTCInfo library has a set list of attributes it'll save to
[18:42:36] <aclark> Right
[18:42:56] <bjersey> I see
[18:42:58] <bjersey> hmmm
[18:43:00] <aclark> I don't know that we need to ever export the file again… I'll ask
[18:43:06] <bjersey> ahh...
[18:43:11] <aclark> So maybe we could cheat
[18:43:14] <aclark> Not sure
[18:43:35] <aclark> (I could be wrong)
[18:43:37] <bjersey> if they never need to export the file again with the meta data hard-coded within the file, then there is really no reason to do any iptc.save()
[18:44:33] <aclark> K
[18:44:43] <aclark> I got a call with him in 20 min so I'll find out
[18:45:09] <bjersey> ok
[18:45:10] <bjersey> thanks!
[18:59:51] <aclark> And by 20 min I mean 3:15 (he just pushed it back)
[19:00:20] <bjersey> no worries
[19:01:38] <aclark> bjersey: you want to add front fields in the meantime?
[19:01:48] <aclark> Errr, fields in the UI
[19:01:54] <bjersey> sure
[19:02:09] <aclark> Cool thanks
[19:02:16] <bjersey> also, what do you think about putting all the fields on just one model?
[19:02:23] <aclark> probably OK
[19:02:30] <bjersey> I can't see a compelling reason to break out into multiple models
[19:02:44] <aclark> Yeah I suspect he doesn't care but I'll ask that too
[19:03:04] <aclark> !l
