(Back to #dcpython overview) (Back to channel listing) (Animate logs)
[17:58:35] <kennethreitz> aclark: looks like i should read all UPDATEs :P
[17:58:54] <kennethreitz> this requirment change is absolutely rediculous
[17:58:57] <kennethreitz> *chain
[18:00:03] <aclark> kennethreitz: we know
[18:00:17] <aclark> kennethreitz: not easy to dig out of 10 years of crap though
[18:00:19] <kennethreitz> these aren't eggs. these are lies!
[18:00:24] <aclark> hahaha
[18:00:28] <kennethreitz> the answer is use something else ;)
[18:00:33] <kennethreitz> start over ;)
[18:00:33] <aclark> oh sure
[18:00:48] <kennethreitz> the install has been running for 15 minutes already
[18:01:08] <aclark> but that's hard too; hundreds of companies make a living off this software… it's consulting-ware :-)
[18:01:14] <kennethreitz> it also installed the wrong python-dateutil
[18:01:18] <kennethreitz> that's got to be a problem
[18:01:24] <kennethreitz> hahaha
[18:01:30] <kennethreitz> it's like sharepoint for the python world
[18:02:02] <aclark> bwah
[18:02:03] <aclark> well
[18:02:44] <aclark> i've given up on debating plone, just try to help move proj forward.
[18:03:00] <aclark> because the community behind it is stellar
[18:03:18] <kennethreitz> well getting them to use modern packaging tools is a start :)
[18:04:15] <aclark> kennethreitz: yeah but you can't just write it off like that. Zope2 grew Zope2-like features one of which is ZCML. And people needed a way to generate all these "slugs"; it was a reasonable choice at the time.
[18:04:24] <aclark> s/Zope2-like/Zope2-like/
[18:04:25] <kennethreitz> i might work on getting a nice unofficial buildout buildpack
[18:04:29] <aclark> s/Zope2-like/Zope3-like/
[18:04:38] <aclark> cool that would help us a lot
[18:04:48] <kennethreitz> should be dead simple
[18:04:52] <kennethreitz> that's the whole point of buildout
[18:05:21] <aclark> then, someone was like let's use namespace packages!!! now we have hundreds of plone.* and zope.* and z3c.* packages all over the place :-\
[18:05:29] <aclark> "OOPS"
[18:05:42] <kennethreitz> doesn't pip break those?
[18:06:14] <kennethreitz> this smells so much like java
[18:06:17] <kennethreitz> omg
[18:06:24] <kennethreitz> HOW MANY PACKAGES ARE THERE!?
[18:06:27] <aclark> no pip can do NS packages
[18:06:31] <aclark> AFAIK
[18:06:33] <aclark> hahah
[18:06:39] <kennethreitz> there's a nuance
[18:06:42] <kennethreitz> of some sort
[19:38:10] <aclark> J1m_: is there not an option to tell buildout to build things w/relative paths? i thought there was but now i can't find it
[19:38:55] <aclark> J1m_: oh nm, relative-paths = true maybe
[19:38:57] <aclark> kennethreitz: ^
[19:39:23] <kennethreitz> aclark J1m_ like, in the config file?
[19:39:25] <kennethreitz> sigh
[19:39:29] <kennethreitz> i'll try that ;)
[19:39:32] <aclark> yep
[19:39:49] <J1m_> yes, relative-paths = true in the buildout directory.
[19:41:54] <aclark> J1m_: thx
[19:42:11] <kennethreitz> thanks gusy
[19:42:13] <kennethreitz> *guys
[20:02:32] <MattBowen> So I believe JSConf tickets just sold out in < 5 seconds
[21:36:56] <aclark> yikes
