#pil logs for Thursday the 25th of April, 2013

(Back to #pil overview) (Back to channel listing) (Animate logs)
[04:18:22] <srd|> is this a good place to ask about image processing techniques such as steerable filters, or is there a better channel for that?
[04:18:45] <srd|> I don't have a specific question yet, but I'm likely to in the next few hours
[04:21:08] <srd|> #processing
[04:24:17] <srd|> OK, ##dsp looks like the right place for this
[07:11:37] <koobs> Evening
[17:12:54] <idella4> around wiredfool?
[17:20:27] <wiredfool_> somewht
[17:21:41] <idella4> ah hi
[17:21:52] <idella4> just enough
[17:22:15] <idella4> how y'all doing?
[17:23:31] <wiredfool_> kneedeep in windows atm
[17:23:49] <idella4> in windows??
[17:24:01] <idella4> as in MS windoze?
[17:24:06] <wiredfool_> yeah. I can't choose what the customers use
[17:24:18] <idella4> ah yep
[17:24:31] <wiredfool_> well, I can, but it would be 100x more work to make it happen on linux
[17:24:48] <idella4> that much, a shame
[17:24:49] <wiredfool_> even if it did keep them from installing stupid browser plugins
[17:25:20] <idella4> oh the way of the modern youngen, plugins and more plugins
[17:27:19] <idella4> mainly dropped in to ack your addition to the gentoo bug which spawned pillow in gentoo
[17:28:52] <wiredfool_> Is it continuing discussion there?
[17:29:23] <idella4> well it is prone to it, since the bug is still open and in progress
[17:29:38] <idella4> I added 1 after yours
[17:29:41] <aclark> replace pil with pillow in all the distributions
[17:30:20] <idella4> hmm that seems to be what's going on
[17:32:21] <wiredfool_> wonder if we should push for a full build for all the distros
[17:32:32] <wiredfool_> its not like it's all that tricky
[17:33:19] <aclark> full build?
[17:33:47] <wiredfool_> all the dependencies
[17:34:14] <wiredfool_> just issue warnings that they're not included
[17:34:25] <wiredfool_> instead of enabling them
[17:34:45] <idella4> hmmm, where gentoo makes a full build by use of all use flags in an emerge
[17:35:16] <aclark> ah
[17:35:37] <idella4> which makes me baulk at you saying you didn't actually get tk and lcms options to 'work'
[17:35:54] <wiredfool_> you got lcms
[17:36:15] <wiredfool_> I didn't try tk. I was kind of tired of compiling at that ppoint, and I'd solved the crux issue
[17:36:25] <idella4> ah I see
[17:36:57] <wiredfool_> I'm less concerned about gentoo than others, since they're totally into tweaking the build
[17:37:10] <idella4> hmm quite
[17:37:29] <wiredfool_> where, for .debs and rpms, I'd want it all there, even at the cost of installing an extra few packages
[17:37:35] <idella4> whereas other distros are basically 1 fixed build I suppose
[17:37:36] <wiredfool_> which we'd know are in the repo
[17:38:13] <idella4> seems a fairly low cost really
[17:38:42] <wiredfool_> It's just a matter of figuring out which package is necessary, e.g. lcms-devel on fedora vs lcms2-devel
[17:39:41] <idella4> yep
