#pypa-dev logs for Friday the 13th of November, 2015

(Back to #pypa-dev overview) (Back to channel listing) (Animate logs)
[13:08:06] <xafer> https://github.com/pypa/pip/pull/3203 small/simple PR looking for review
[13:28:26] <xafer> thanks dstufft :)
[13:33:10] <xafer> a slightly more controversial (but still simple) PR: https://github.com/pypa/pip/pull/3173
[13:57:18] <dstufft> nlh: how're things progressing?
[14:33:16] <nlh> hi dstufft :)
[14:33:24] <dstufft> nlh: heya!
[14:33:41] <nlh> Not a lot done on Wednesday, but I hope to get a bit done on Sunday
[14:34:14] <nlh> It'll probably not be perfect by Monday, but I can always refactor...
[14:34:42] <nlh> maybe if we can just not merge any new HTML/CSS without my oversight, that will allow me to make sure we don't end up in a total mess
[14:35:25] <dstufft> nlh: we can totally require new HTML/CSS to get your OK
[14:35:32] <nlh> ok. cool.
[14:35:49] <nlh> At work I've been researching a whole lot of really cool HTML/CSS stuff for managing large projects
[14:36:00] <nlh> so hopefully I'll get to apply some of these to the project
[14:36:08] <dstufft> sure!
[14:36:18] <dstufft> I don't have much opinion on how to manage the HTML/CSS stuff :|
[14:36:24] <dstufft> I'm not very good at it
[14:36:30] <nlh> no, not many people are...
[14:36:35] <nlh> http://rscss.io
[14:36:41] <nlh> is my current interest
[14:36:52] <nlh> also there is a thing called ITCSS
[14:37:10] <nlh> which is about managing CSS inheritance
[14:37:19] <nlh> both look very interesting
[14:38:00] <nlh> It's really refreshing to hear other people talk about how hard CSS is...
[14:38:13] <nlh> or at least, how hard it can become once you start to scale..
[14:38:51] <nlh> I know PyPI isn't huge, but I do want to make sure that we can make it work with other people contributing HTML/CSS
[14:39:21] <nlh> and that it all meets a certain standard and everything is in its right place
[14:40:00] <nlh> well, maybe *everything* is a bit ambitious ;)
[14:45:37] <dstufft> nlh: I would love for PyPI to be well managed in the HTML/CSS stuff too :)
[14:46:25] <nlh> I think it is doable... but I think it's probably going to require some post-launch work to integrate any of these systems...
[14:46:51] <nlh> realistically, I'm not going to have time to get all the new features in AND introduce a CSS methodology...
[14:47:35] <dstufft> nlh: I think I mentioned it at the beginning, but just to reiterate, I'd love for your level of involvement (particularly ongoing involvement) to be as indepth as you feel comfortable. I am very much not comfortable with the front-end/design/UX side of things so if you want to stay involved past the initial getting it done as the benevolent dictator of the design/ux/HTML/CSS I would love that and I'm more than happy to make all HTML/CSS/UX
[14:47:35] <dstufft> stuff require your stamp of approval
[14:48:07] <dstufft> nlh: sure! a great benefit of a web application is that you can always deploy a new version :)
[14:48:53] <nlh> dstufft: well, let's see how it goes. I certainly want to get it up to a certain standard before really opening it up. Also, if we do get other designers and front end developers involved, it's going to be so much easier if we have a consistent, sane front end
[14:49:05] <nlh> :D
[14:49:29] <nlh> so you've still got to put up with me for a while yet ;o)
[14:49:34] <dstufft> +1+1
[14:51:18] <dstufft> nlh: not gonna lie, I'm annoyed anytime I'm working on Warehouse because my half ass (not really even half ass) design makes me so mad now that I know what the real thing is going to look like
[14:51:36] <nlh> ha!
[14:51:42] <nlh> not too long now!!!
