(Back to #pypa-dev overview) (Back to channel listing) (Animate logs)
[14:31:38] <sumanah> !logs
[14:31:38] <pmxbot> http://chat-logs.dcpython.org/channel/pypa-dev
[14:41:13] <sumanah> jaraco: I see pmxbot has logging enabled for this & other channels but the webserver at http://chat-logs.dcpython.org/ does not seem to respond -- https://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/chat-logs.dcpython.org
[14:42:02] <jaraco> Indeed, that name doesn’t resolve for me anymore.
[14:42:52] <jaraco> I can’t remember if that was an intentional change or unintentional.
[14:43:11] <sumanah> jaraco: I am not sure whether you're one of the people who is involved with that particular bot instance
[14:43:13] <jaraco> You can see the logs at http://kafka.dcpython.org/
[14:43:33] <sumanah> Thank you jaraco!
[14:43:56] <sumanah> jaraco: I think the `!logs` command should point to that; can you make that change?
[14:44:04] <jaraco> Yes.
[14:46:22] <jaraco> !logs
[14:46:22] <pmxbot> http://kafka.dcpython.org/channel/pypa-dev
[14:47:00] <sumanah> Thank you, jaraco
[14:49:52] <jaraco> !thanks sumanah for letting me know.
[14:49:52] <pmxbot> you're doing good work, sumanah!
[14:53:25] <sumanah> looking at https://wiki.python.org/psf/PackagingWG/2018-03-06-Warehouse before today's meeting
[15:00:06] <sumanah> EWDurbin: https://github.com/pypa/warehouse/issues/1211 Move Conveyor back to using (test.)pypi.org - you mentioned you were planning on doing this late last week. if you want a reminder, here it is; if you think this is not reminder-worthy, just say so and I'll drop it
[15:00:39] <EWDurbin> sumanah: oh hey I can do that during our demo today :-D
[15:00:43] <sumanah> ok!
[15:00:44] <EWDurbin> It’s a good example
[15:12:31] <sumanah> Hi lghampton!
[15:12:34] <sumanah> good morning.
[15:12:48] <lghampton> sumanah: Good morning! How are you?
[15:12:57] <lghampton> sumanah: I am sorry I missed last week's meeting
[15:13:03] <sumanah> I'm all right and hope you're feeling better
[15:13:13] <sumanah> lghampton: You told me ahead of time -- no prob. :)
[15:13:15] <lghampton> sumanah: much better, thank you!
[15:13:41] <sumanah> lghampton: you should probably read https://wiki.python.org/psf/PackagingWG/2018-03-06-Warehouse and https://mail.python.org/pipermail/distutils-sig/2018-March/032034.html and let me know when you have done so
[15:14:01] <lghampton> sumanah: ok
[15:18:35] <lghampton> sumanah: I read the updates, we got a lot of stuff done! :)
[15:18:41] <sumanah> Yes!
[15:19:00] <sumanah> lghampton: so I think we should see whether you can finish up that PR of yours before the meeting today
[15:19:14] <lghampton> sumanah: ok, I will take a look at it
[15:40:19] <sumanah> lghampton: please speak up in the channel if you are having any trouble with revising your PR
[15:40:32] <lghampton> sumanah: will do
[15:41:00] <lghampton> sumanah: the wifi is slow where I am and it's taking a little while to spin up the containers
[15:41:07] <sumanah> understood lghampton
[16:30:46] <nlh> hello!
[16:31:04] <lghampton> nlh: hi!
[16:32:19] <nlh> lghampton, for your PR, I was thinking that it might be helpful to break the username and full name onto two seperate lines?
[16:32:25] <nlh> e.g have one below the other?
[16:33:32] <lghampton> nlh: I think that would make sense
[16:33:55] <lghampton> nlh: I am not sure exactly how to implement it, though
[16:34:26] <nlh> lghampton, let me pull down the branch and give you some tips :)
[16:34:36] <lghampton> nlh: thank you! :)
[16:39:18] <lghampton> nlh: sumanah: I am going to relocate to a place with better wifi, I will be back in 20ish mins
[16:39:25] <sumanah> Thanks lghampton
[16:39:44] <nlh> ok :)
[16:56:20] <lghampton> nlh: I am back
[16:57:39] <nlh> just on your branch lghampton- its more complex than I thought
[16:57:43] <nlh> I will post a snippet on your PR?
[16:58:02] <lghampton> nlh: yes, that sounds good
[17:07:55] <sumanah> dstufft: https://wiki.python.org/psf/PackagingSprints marked you down
[17:09:31] <sumanah> nlh: is https://github.com/pypa/warehouse/issues/3200 "Redesign release table" something you think we need to do before launch? I saw you self-assigned it
[17:09:50] <nlh> no sumanah - it's not blocking launch
[17:09:57] <sumanah> ok thanks nlh, marking it as such
[17:10:04] <nlh> something I'd like to do, but no big deal if we don't get to it
[17:48:23] <sumanah> dstufft: ping re visit, potentially this week.
[17:49:41] <sumanah> lghampton: speak up if you're stuck on anything :)
[17:50:49] <lghampton> sumanah: will do
[17:51:21] <lghampton> nlh: were you going to add a comment to my PR? I haven't seen it
[17:57:49] <sumanah> Hi cryvate, hope you're doing well
[17:58:11] <lghampton> nlh: sumanah: I pushed something that should fix the issue Dustin mentioned
[17:58:15] <cryvate> beside my pc just crashing, yeah
[17:58:28] <sumanah> lghampton: link?
[17:58:49] <lghampton> sumanah: https://github.com/pypa/warehouse/pull/3047
[17:59:25] <sumanah> lghampton: you may as well rebase against master and re-push
[17:59:41] <lghampton> sumanah: ok
[18:02:50] <sumanah> lghampton: I'd like for you to please review https://github.com/pypa/warehouse/pull/3220 by waseem18 - "Displays message when username/email not found in request password reset form"
[18:03:01] <lghampton> sumanah: ok
[18:03:12] <sumanah> lghampton: and, after that, https://github.com/pypa/warehouse/pull/3219 Disable form and show warning on mismatch when updating password #3219 by
[18:03:13] <sumanah> yeraydiazdiaz
[18:03:24] <lghampton> sumanah: ok
[18:04:14] <sumanah> I figure you should be able to do both of those within the next 90 min or so of work -- if you haven't had lunch yet, I hope you'll do that first
[18:05:37] <sumanah> nlh, I want to check in with you about some issues you've opened recently, to check whether any of them are ones that you feel we really should get around to by launch or before shutdown, for usability reasons
[18:05:55] <sumanah> oh she's not here at the moment
[18:06:27] <sumanah> lghampton: if you'll look back in IRC logs you'll see she didn't see your question here.
[18:06:57] <lghampton> sumanah: oh, ok
[18:33:05] <lghampton> sumanah: I finished looking at https://github.com/pypa/warehouse/pull/3220, and I have started on 3219
[18:33:19] <lghampton> sumanah: but I missed your message about lunch, so I am going to get something now
[18:33:23] <sumanah> :)
[19:21:14] <lghampton> sumanah: I am back
[19:21:19] <sumanah> Welcome back lghampton!
[19:21:43] <lghampton> sumanah: I am going to finish looking at https://github.com/pypa/warehouse/pull/3219
[19:21:47] <sumanah> Great
[19:31:44] <lghampton> sumanah: I finished testing https://github.com/pypa/warehouse/pull/3219
[19:32:25] <sumanah> thanks lghampton
[19:32:41] <sumanah> lghampton: for #3047, your PR, if it's ready to re-review, you need to leave a comment on the PR saying so.
[19:33:08] <lghampton> sumanah: Ok, will put a note on it. I thought Nicole had something she wanted to add to it, I will ping her
[19:33:39] <sumanah> ok. after you do that, lghampton, please test https://github.com/pypa/warehouse/pull/3230 by cryvate - Make field 'username or email' required in html in input-user-name template #3230
[19:33:54] <lghampton> sumanah: ok
[19:37:18] <sumanah> lghampton: after you leave that note on your PR and then review cryvate's PR, I think https://github.com/pypa/warehouse/issues/2649 "Ability to add new classifiers." might be a good feature for you to work on next.
[19:37:28] <lghampton> sumanah: ok
[19:37:48] <sumanah> di_codes ^ heads-up in case you were about to work on this
[19:39:15] <lghampton> sumanah: did you want to create an issue for a customer service queue for Warehouse?
[19:39:29] <sumanah> lghampton: I'm doing it now. thanks
[19:39:48] <lghampton> sumanah: ok
[19:42:12] <lghampton> sumanah: I am resolving a linting issue in my PR
[19:52:31] <lghampton> sumanah: I am looking at cryvate's PR. Is there a tool/method for me to see what the POST request looks like?
[19:52:44] <sumanah> lghampton: must be
[19:52:59] <sumanah> lghampton: are you in Firefox or Chrome?
[19:53:06] <lghampton> sumanah: Chrome
[19:53:18] <sumanah> lghampton: I'm not as familiar with Chrome developer tools but there must be something in there.
[19:53:27] <lghampton> sumanah: ok, thank you, I will check there
[19:55:13] <sumanah> lghampton: yup, I just opened up Chrome developer tools
[19:55:17] <sumanah> lghampton: there's a Network tab
[19:55:29] <lghampton> sumanah: I found a page on it, thank you :)
[19:55:39] <sumanah> if you have the Network tab open and you do a POST request, you can check the headers
[19:55:40] <sumanah> cool
[19:56:17] <sumanah> lghampton: there are a bunch of ways to inspect your HTTP requests -- on the command line, using Wireshark, etc. -- but I figure you already have your browser open
[19:56:39] <lghampton> sumanah: yes. I wasn't sure if I could wireshark things on localhost
[19:56:50] <sumanah> I bet you can! but yeah.
[20:04:27] <gaborszogyenyi> hi
[20:05:00] <gaborszogyenyi> can someone help, how to install curses with pip?
[20:05:12] <apollo13> you can't
[20:05:13] <gaborszogyenyi> I am on Debian Linux
[20:05:23] <gaborszogyenyi> why?
[20:05:36] <apollo13> well I am assuming you mean the curses system library?
[20:05:41] <apollo13> you want to install that via apt
[20:05:54] <apollo13> binding libraries you can then install via pip
[20:06:32] <gaborszogyenyi> This is the error message: ModuleNotFoundError: No module named '_curses'
[20:06:57] <apollo13> that is part of the stdlib usually, how did you compile your python?
[20:07:17] <gaborszogyenyi> python is installed with apt
[20:07:50] <apollo13> then it is part of libpython3.6-stdlib (replace with the relevant version)
[20:07:56] <gaborszogyenyi> Python 3.6.2rc1
[20:08:01] <apollo13> you can confirm via dpkg -L libpython3.6-stdlib
[20:08:44] <apollo13> uhm, 3.6.2 is not a version in debian afaik
[20:08:49] <apollo13> buster and sid do have 3.6.4
[20:08:53] <apollo13> the others do not have it
[20:09:18] <apollo13> or if it is, the system misses a few updates
[20:10:04] <gaborszogyenyi> now installed libpython3.6-stdlib but I still have errors
[20:10:57] <gaborszogyenyi> maybe I compiled it a year ago...
[20:11:13] <apollo13> *shrug*
[20:11:17] <apollo13> which python3.6
[20:11:27] <apollo13> if it is in /usr/local it is your's
[20:12:04] <apollo13> if it is in /usr/bin then your system is not updated
[20:12:25] <gaborszogyenyi> Thanks, it's working now
[20:12:48] <gaborszogyenyi> the problem was with the self-compiled python
[20:13:07] <gaborszogyenyi> Python 3.6.2rc1
[20:13:34] <apollo13> obviously, given that you most likely didn't have curses development headers installed when compiling python
[20:13:45] <gaborszogyenyi> It's good to know, if I compile python for myself, some features not working, like curses
[20:14:01] <apollo13> that doesn't have to be the case
[20:14:16] <apollo13> you just need to build it with the relevant libraries installed and features enabled
[20:14:51] <gaborszogyenyi> ok
[20:15:40] <gaborszogyenyi> quit()
[21:55:10] <sumanah> !logs
[21:55:10] <pmxbot> http://kafka.dcpython.org/channel/pypa-dev
[21:55:51] <sumanah> I'm back after net problems
[21:56:02] <sumanah> working on https://github.com/pypa/warehouse/pull/3190 now and fixing what Nicole pointed out
[22:12:15] <sumanah> di_codes: is https://github.com/pypa/warehouse/issues/3078 due an update now that you did the camo thing with Ernest?
[22:14:04] <di_codes> sumanah: blocked on <https://github.com/python/pypi-theme/issues/13>
[22:14:22] <sumanah> I'm not allowed to see that issue, I see.
[22:14:34] <sumanah> Or that repo.
[22:15:14] <di_codes> sumanah: ah, sorry! I’m blocked on nlh making an image we can show instead of a broken too-large image, she said she’d do it tomorrow
[22:15:35] <sumanah> di_codes: ah, thanks. May I mention that on the issue?
[22:15:52] <di_codes> sumanah: sure, thanks!
[23:14:31] <sumanah> dstufft: https://github.com/pypa/warehouse/issues/2935#issuecomment-371814633 the JSON APIs aren't new; they're an emulation of Legacy. got it. Are the RSS feeds new to Warehouse?
[23:14:44] <dstufft> sumanah: No
[23:15:08] <sumanah> ok
[23:15:18] <dstufft> Warehouse doesn't have any new APIs really
[23:16:08] <sumanah> dstufft: so the RSS feeds were on legacy PyPI as well? ok
[23:16:20] <sumanah> I think I was going off other people's surprise
[23:16:32] <dstufft> https://pypi.python.org/pypi?:action=packages_rss
[23:16:42] <sumanah> dstufft: have you had a chance to check whether I can visit this week?
[23:16:42] <dstufft> https://pypi.python.org/pypi?:action=rss
[23:17:18] <dstufft> sumanah: Oh yea I did. ASked my wife and we apparently have doctor's appointments like every day this week -.-
[23:17:30] <sumanah> dstufft: ok. Can I ask about some other future dates?
[23:17:57] <sumanah> dstufft: Thursday/Friday March 29-30?
[23:17:58] <dstufft> yea
[23:18:39] <sumanah> Also dstufft if your wife is the person I should ask, I am 100% happy to simply talk to her directly. feel free to tell me her email or phone #
[23:20:04] <dstufft> sumanah: Nah, I gotta cross reference home and work calendars and shit, so I end up asking her for home and I check my work calendar
[23:20:09] <sumanah> ok
[23:20:34] <dstufft> II'm in a meeting right now, and Tracy is asleep, I'll ask her later or tomorrow about 29 or 30
[23:21:11] <sumanah> Thanks dstufft
