(Back to #pypa-dev overview) (Back to channel listing) (Animate logs)
[00:24:44] <techalchemy> ronny: happy to help / provide more info on pip#6190 or if there's a setuptools issue just point me at it
[00:25:44] <techalchemy> it caught me by surprise, is currently holding me back from cutting a release :(
[04:00:07] <cooperlees> EWDurbin: That was quite the implicit bug - bandersnatch was implicitly running all plugins. Bad design and I should of caught it during reviews.
[04:00:22] <cooperlees> Resulted in quite the PR: https://github.com/pypa/bandersnatch/pull/142
[09:23:13] <ronny> techalchemy: i beleive all info is availiable, the problem is the packaging misstake in pendulum 1.x triggering a really interesting behaviour
[09:26:05] <ronny> techalchemy: also i dont have time to look into the deeper details or fixing it ^^
[14:07:41] <exarkun1> I wonder if anyone has any suggestions for workarounds for this problem: https://travis-ci.org/tahoe-lafs/tahoe-lafs/jobs/484170974#L245-L267
[14:12:25] <ronny> exarkun1: i believe disabling build isolation is the path to avoid it atm, i recall an issue about it but i dont have a link ready
[14:13:07] <exarkun1> thanks, that gives me some words to google
[14:13:26] <techalchemy> pip install --no-build-isolation
[14:14:18] <techalchemy> ronny: for the issue in question it seems it's just about putting cwd at the head of sys.path, haven't had time to catch up on the setuptools issue yet but i'm told there is one
[14:45:44] <exarkun1> --no-build-isolation is a pretty new option, I take it?
[14:46:05] <exarkun1> the newest tox seems to use a pip that's too old for it
[16:30:08] <mroutis> hello, everyone, how do you deal with unicode strings while maintaining compatibility with different platforms and python versions? where files should I look at?
[16:30:41] <mroutis> s/where/which
[16:58:33] <exarkun1> mroutis: might help to be a little more specific in your question. also, what's the connection to pypa? sounds like a #python question
[18:46:33] <mroutis> exarkun1: indeed, it was kindof out of the blue; I'm looking for ideas about how to manage unicode input/output on a CLI app written in Python, supporting both py2/py3, and the only open source app that I could think about was `pip`; I might ask it on #python, thanks anyways :)
[18:54:37] <exarkun1> What's the deal with `assert have_directory_for_build` failing? https://gist.github.com/exarkun/40291dd29b77e9ea2ff3a328a2c88cce
[19:09:18] <dstufft> exarkun1: a regression in 19.0, but 19.0.1 should fix it I think
[19:09:29] <dstufft> exarkun1: also --no-build-isolation is fairly new, but you can set an environment variable for it if you want
[19:09:44] <cooperlees> dstufft: !! *waves*
[19:09:51] <dstufft> cooperlees: heya!
[19:10:16] <cooperlees> what's cracking?
[19:10:41] <dstufft> just super busy with work stuff lately :( yourself?
[19:11:26] <cooperlees> Yeah the same. Jason Fried is finally slaving away rebuild our world in Python 3.7 - so just fixing things as they come up and then working on my Wireless Networking Day Job team
[19:11:48] <cooperlees> Debugging bandersnatch regressions
[19:12:55] <exarkun1> dstufft: pretty sure I have 19.0.1 :/
[19:15:18] <dstufft> exarkun1: I must be wrong then, don't have time to dig further into it though sorry :( Looks like https://github.com/pypa/pip/issues/6197 might be related
[19:37:23] <tos9> dstufft: do you have a second for a quick PM?
[19:37:30] <tos9> (It's not a support request obviously :)
[19:38:02] <cooperlees> I'd personally just message and let him choose to respond or not :)
[20:39:28] <dstufft> tos9: you can PM, though I'll be afk for a minute to get a drink
