(Back to #pypa-dev overview) (Back to channel listing) (Animate logs)
[11:44:56] <cooperlees> pradyunsg: Found my issue - "Abuse detected" - Going to find out what my abuse is ... https://travis-ci.org/pypa/bandersnatch/requests
[12:03:28] <pradyunsg> Might be PRs from pyup only.
[12:03:36] <pradyunsg> cooperlees: ^
[12:13:09] <cooperlees> pradyunsg: Interesting. I've filed a task to ask why. Will let ya know :)
[12:13:37] <cooperlees> Thanks for being responsive and discussing with me
[12:14:03] <cooperlees> pradyunsg: Weird thing is - latest PR was created by me and flagged "abuse"
[12:15:00] <pradyunsg> cooperlees: interesting. No clue then.
[12:15:28] <cooperlees> Yeah, I'm interested to see what they say I'm doing that's abuse. Will report back.
[12:16:19] <cooperlees> I'd just use Azure for everything, but Azure does not have 3.8alpha builds - I like helping Lukasz by building with it.
[12:24:34] <pradyunsg> * Ł
[12:24:37] <pradyunsg> 🙃
[12:33:50] <cooperlees> Taking the time to type that really achieves nothing with getting my point across.
[13:10:59] <cooperlees> pradyunsg: "Our system automatically flagged your account for possible abuse, but after further review, we were able to clear that up. You should be all set to build as normal, though please feel free to contact us should you have any questions or concerns arise."
[13:33:41] <sigmavirus24> cooperlees: perhaps I'm just jaded but that sounds like "We just acquired this company, laid off a large portion of the staff, and want to cut costs to the best of our abilities ... which means flagging legitimate F/OSS projects as abuse to see if they even notice"
[13:33:55] <ehashman> sigmavirus24: ++
[13:35:43] <sigmavirus24> ehashman: something something great minds something something
[13:37:13] <ehashman> ehehe
[13:37:18] <cooperlees> LoL
[13:37:26] <cooperlees> Well, it's working again. So at least I have that.
[13:37:43] <ehashman> oh hey this is a channel with people that do open source
[13:37:58] <cooperlees> We do?
[13:38:12] <ehashman> if you didn't why would you be here :D
[13:38:34] <ehashman> the Open Source Initiative is having a board election! https://twitter.com/ehashdn/status/1102726661227905024
[13:38:54] <ehashman> some cool Python folks like myself, VanL, and Mariatta are running for seats
[13:41:59] <pradyunsg> ehashman: Nice! Who can vote?
[13:42:58] <pradyunsg> cooperlees: yay? XD
[13:43:05] <sigmavirus24> pradyunsg: https://opensource.org/members/join
[13:43:14] <sigmavirus24> ehashman: is mariatta encountering some kind of b.s.?
[13:43:20] <pradyunsg> thanks sigmavirus24!
[13:50:18] <ehashman> sigmavirus24: yeah a bit
[13:50:33] <ehashman> there was some awful comment on /. about all the women running
[13:50:59] <ehashman> and there's some rambling comment on her profile page about moving python bugs to github (which has nothingvto do with the OSI??)
[13:51:51] <sigmavirus24> ehashman: do you know if addresses are public record? The info box is confusing
[13:52:23] <ehashman> your personal address signup info? shouldn't be
[13:52:30] <sigmavirus24> cool
[13:52:37] <sigmavirus24> They make it sound like it might be public
[13:53:51] <ehashman> screenshot?
[13:55:43] <sigmavirus24> Oh, already went past that page :/ It's on the /join page
[13:55:59] <sigmavirus24> Address isn't required if we want to keep that info private, but is necessary for a tax receipt
[13:56:40] <ehashman> oh
[13:56:51] <ehashman> I thimk they just mean if you don't want to disclose your address.
[13:57:01] <ehashman> such that they have it at all
[13:57:26] <ehashman> many people in the open source community are very privacy-sensitive
[13:58:21] <sigmavirus24> Yeah, I wouldn't mind the tax receipt but I'm also sensitive about giving my address out :P
[13:59:45] <ehashman> I should consider getting a PO box
[14:01:27] <sigmavirus24> I have one, wasn't sure if that'd be good enough :/
[14:01:45] <ehashman> definitely fine for tax receipts
[14:02:00] <ehashman> vaguely wonder if for donations I should get a virtual address
[14:02:07] <sigmavirus24> heh
[14:02:14] <sigmavirus24> As an aside, how does one vote after joining?
[14:02:19] <ehashman> the kind that just scans all your mail for you
[14:02:27] <ehashman> you will get an email with voter info from helios!
[14:02:59] <ehashman> pradyunsg: did you sign up too? :)
[14:04:55] <ehashman> I'm keeping a count of all the new members I'm signing up, hehe
[14:11:08] <sigmavirus24> ehashman: planning for the worst, as I am want to do, is there someone else to contact in the event I don't see a ballot?
[15:01:30] <ehashman> sigmavirus24: yes, reach out to the GM Patrick
[15:01:41] <ehashman> you will also get a welcome email from him at some point
[15:56:45] <pradyunsg> ehashman: nope. $40 is like, > 2 weeks of personal expenses for me here, in college in India.
[15:57:00] <pradyunsg> (yay differences in cost of living)
[15:59:04] <ehashman> pradyunsg: if you are a student you can request a free membership :)
[15:59:09] <ehashman> or if costs are a burden
[15:59:18] <ehashman> https://opensource.org/members#fees <-- form link here
[16:00:10] <pradyunsg> I am a student; just landed on the same page independently. :)
[16:04:14] <pradyunsg> ehashman: filled the contact form. :)
[16:05:45] <ehashman> \o/
[16:13:22] <pradyunsg> sigmavirus24: this just came in my twitter feed, I think that the awful what ehashman was referring to: https://twitter.com/alicegoldfuss/status/1102609189342371840
[16:13:46] <pradyunsg> s/what/comment/
[16:17:19] <ehashman> I can't believe I only scored a 1/10
[18:18:04] <sigmavirus24> ehashman: it's because *spooky fingers* DEBIAN *spooky fingers*
[18:18:25] <sigmavirus24> Now that Red Hat's been bought by IBM, I guess my last two options for laptop linux are going to be Arch and Debian
[18:21:26] <ehashman> hahaha
[19:18:36] <dstufft> Debian should count for way more than 1/10
[19:51:47] <ehashman> :P
[19:51:49] <ehashman> at least 2!
