(Back to #pypa overview) (Back to channel listing) (Animate logs)
[22:44:08] <disi> i'm trying to contact the author of a pypi package, but there is almost no usable info attached to the package (https://pypi.org/project/accountant/). anyone know how i might reach them?
[23:03:51] <ngoldbaum> it looks like it’s not abandoned, are you trying to get the name from them or is it about the package somehow?
[23:04:09] <ngoldbaum> if they don’t want to be contacted i’m not sure there’s much the pypi admins can do
[23:04:39] <ngoldbaum> if you’re trying to snipe the name you’re also out of luck since the owner hasn’t abandoned the package
[23:31:15] <sumanah> disi: if you download and unpack the past release files, there's no email address anywhere?
[23:31:51] <disi> sumanah: oh, havent tried that!
[23:32:12] <disi> ngoldbaum: yes, it's about the name... not sure what we want, i guess to see if their open to giving up the name
[23:32:22] <disi> they're*
[23:32:31] <sumanah> disi: and if you don't mind, could you please file an issue in https://github.com/pypa/warehouse/issues saying that we should reject uploads where the author email address is @example.com?
[23:32:35] <tos9> ha, that's a bit of funny star bug
[23:33:10] <tos9> not sure there's a way to address it, but the reason that project looks like it's got a ton of stars and forks is that it marks pypa/sampleproject as its URL
[23:33:30] <disi> yup haha i noticed that
[23:38:56] <sumanah> I have now followed my curiosity and looked at this package, and am mega irritated that someone is presuming upon the shared hospitality of PyPI but shirking the responsibility and accountability of giving the general public a way to contact them
[23:39:07] <sumanah> and a blank README!
[23:39:20] <sumanah> the disrespect wafts off the page
[23:39:40] <sumanah> then again, I should also introspect and note that there are other external factors that may lead to my irritation here
